Preparing for an Electromyogram
An Electromyogram (EMG) is a two-part test that evaluates how well your nerves conduct impulses to your muscles. An EMG is used to determine whether your condition involves muscle and nerve disease, as well as the exact location of the problem. This ensures proper diagnosis and treatment of your condition.
Be sure to inform Dr. Henry is you are taking any blood thinners, such as Coumadin before starting this test. Do not apply any lotion to your skin the day of the exam.
An EMG includes a Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) test, as well as a recording of your muscles at rest and as they contract. Dr. Henry may conduct only one or both parts of this test as needed. Dr. Henry will address any questions you may have at the time of your EMG. Please allow at least 60 minutes to complete your EMG.
